His journey has included coming out within a fundamentalist Christian family, a heart diagnosis he was never expected to survive, and building a twenty-plus-year marriage with his husband, Donald. A year ago, Kirk left the United States to build a new life in Portugal, where he continues figuring out what home means from the middle of that transition.
